Description
The Masai Mara National Reserve is named after the famous red-robed fierce warrior Masai tribe. When the tribe first moved in, they observed the lands looked
spotted (‘Mara’, in their language of Maa) as they were peppered with wildlife and Acacia trees. Thus the name, ‘Masai Mara’.
The tribe almost never hunts and believes in living in harmony with the wildlife.
The Masai Mara ecosystem is a vast expanse of 1510 square kilometres.
The Mara boasts the big 5, namely, the African elephant, Cape buffalo, African leopard, African lion and African black rhino.
